Austin, TX – The Texas Solar Power Association (TSPA) today announced that it has rebranded as the Texas Solar + Storage Association (TSSA).
“Solar power and energy storage are the two fastest growing technologies on the power grid and our membership, from residential to utility-scale, has for several years been deeply engaged in energy storage development at solar facilities and on a stand-alone basis,” TSSA Executive Director Mark R. Stover said. “Our Board of Directors felt it was time for the association’s name and mission to best reflect what the membership is pursuing in the ERCOT market and where we have engaged from a policy perspective.”
TSSA President Lynnae Willette said, “we look forward to carrying out our more clearly defined mission, which is to protect and promote solar and energy storage technologies in Texas. Solar and storage, together and on their own, increase grid reliability, lower costs for consumers, and deliver economic benefits throughout Texas. TSSA will continue to work closely with policymakers, regulators, market participants, and other associations to ensure the growth of these technologies and their benefits.”
TSPA was founded in 2014. At that time, there was less than 300 MW of solar power and only 36 MW of energy storage on the grid. Today there are 26,629 MW of solar power and 9,233 MW of energy storage installed and operating in ERCOT. Solar projects and energy storage projects rank first and second respectively in terms of new capacity under development.
“As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, there is no better time to rebrand to recognize the tremendous growth of our industry, the shift in market dynamics, and the current focus of our membership,” added Stover.
